Opinion: Oregon can help close ‘justice gap’ with licensed paralegals

With many Oregonians unable to afford a lawyer in divorces or housing disputes, a two-tiered system of justice is developing between those who are represented and those who are not, write Senior Judge Maureen McKnight and housing attorney Brian Cox. A proposal to create a new classification of legal professionals – licensed paralegals – could help ensure that Oregonians can more easily access legal help.
